Why should I care about rain forest deforestation?

A Problem Based Interdisciplinary Middle School Unit

This web page will facilitate our sixth grade rain forest interdisciplinary unit.  We will be incorporating all academic areas.  We would like our students to come away with an appreciation of the rain forest and its impact on our lives.

This unit relates to our existing curriculum and state standards because in science we teach forest biomes and in social studies we teach about Mexico the Caribbean, Central and South American countries.   To meet Language Arts standards they develop a final project that uses persuasion.  A math component is included and reinforces the current state standards.
