DEAD AMERICAN POETS' SOCIETY
Task: To compile a definitive anthology of dead American poets for the purpose of engaging reluctant adolescent readers. You will be researching an individual poet, conducting an imaginary interview with this particular poet and selecting one or two representative pieces of this poet’s work to showcase in your anthology. With these selections, you will the briefly annotate them to encourage people to read the poems. Ultimately, your work will be combined with that of your group members in chronological order. All members’ combined work on the individual poets will make up the body of your poetry anthology, You will be placed with a group of students, approximately 7-10. The group will be given a list of approximately 30 dead American poets. Each of you will select an individual poet on which to do your research. How do you determine which poet you want to work with? Read a few of each poet’s individual poems, find a poet whose work intrigues you, and select. Only one group member will be able to do one poet, enabling everyone to be working with different writers. Do not duplicate poets within a group. You must sample the works of at least 5 different poets before you decide. Specific examples of each step follow below. When finished, each group as a whole will submit its anthology to the publisher to see if it meets specifications.
Publisher (the teacher) will then determine places..1st
place, 2nd place, and
3rd place.
