Task and Objectives

The object of this WebQuest can be summed up in 3 statements:

  • Who invited what?...and when?...I want you to find out when things were invented, who invented them, and see that important inventions were often times developed a long, long time ago, and evolved over time.

  • Why do we need it?...I want you to think about important inventions, and be able to tell how they affect our daily living.  What would life be like without it? How does an invention improve our lives?

  • What is it good for?...I want you to think about why things were invented, and be able to tell what problem was solved by certain "major" inventions. To wrap things up, students will take all of the information & bring it together in a PowerPoint slideshow.........that will hopefully have a theme and make sense!'

  • When you're done finding and recording information, so it's time to pull it all together. In this portion of the activity you may need to go back to the web to try and find some pictures of inventions.
    1. Now you need to look at the list of inventions that you have collected, and figure out some logical way to organize it . For example, alphabetical, chronological, importance, uses etc. It's up to you.
    2. Next, you will put all of your inventions into a slideshow on PowerPoint.
    3. Your first slide should be a title slide, and should include your name, and a title for the show.
    4. The last slide should be a summary, which wraps up and concludes the show
    5. In between you will need from 5-10 slides to display what has been learned about inventions.
    6. Be sure to include all of the when, who, what and why information that you have
    7. Also include from 3-5 pictures of inventions or inventors that are in your show.
    8. Your show does not need to be animated, but should have a definite theme, and a consistent look.
