How do we know they understand?....Evaluate...let them:.... teach....write...present...create....perform....

Students will provide their teacher with the following material from each pillar search:

Trustworthiness Pillar: Students will provide teachers with a printed copy of their collab-write created story.  The story will have 2 characters who are trustworthy and 2 who are not.  

 

Respect PIllar:  On paper, Students will answer the following questions:

 

  1. How was respect ignored in this story?
  2. How would you have treated the "Snakeman"?
  3. Just because people like different things then you, should you make fun of them? 
  4. Do you know of a student that others make fun of? Why? How can you help that student? Why is it important that kids feel safe and not made fun of? 
  5. How does the "Golden Rule" and Respect go together?

 

Responsibility Pillar: Students will play 1 math game and evaluate it on a scale of 1-5 (5=awesome).  They will then explore "The Homework spot" and provide a 2 minute oral report on 2 sites that may help others with homework problems in the future. 

TO

Citizenship Pillar: Students will play "Pack your bags game" on the peacecorps site.  They will choose a country where the Peacecorp is stationed.  After reading about the peacecorp they will create a poster about this country with the following information: 

  1. Best things about this country.
  2. What types of supplies would you need in this country?
  3. Biggest concern about this countries children.
  4. What could you do to help children in this country?

                              and then:

  1. Students will then get in groups of 5 and discuss:
  2. Worries you have about kids in your community
  3. What could you do to help the kids in your community? 
  4. Brainstorm some ways to help and report to class.

 

Fairness Pillar: Students will pick a science hero and read their information.  They will then complete these sentences.

  1. An example of Fairness in my hero's story is.......
  2. An example of prejudice in my hero's story is......

They will then do a search on google (http://www.google.com) and type in the keyword "prejudice" the student will explore a site of choice and write a paragraph about the example of prejudice that they chose.  They will explain why "Fairness is not found here".

 

Caring Pillar: Students are to pick a "caring profession" and explore it on this site.  They are to then email their teacher with the following information:

 

  1. Students name:  
  2. Caring Career choice:
  3. What does that person do:
  4. Where does that person work:
  5. How do they help children?
  6. Would the student like this job?                                                                                      

The students will also click on the "Dealing with Feelings" tab and will click on "School Violence and what it means to you".  They will then get in groups of 2 and discuss why it happens and how it can be stopped.  Their groups will then brainstorm 10 ideas to stop school violence which will then be presented to their class.  The teacher will create a compiled list of all brainstorms and the class will choose the best one to start working on.
