PROCESS

1. Decide if you are participating in the European or Pacific theater.

2. Use the Internet to research battles, battle strategies, personal accounts, training camp, etc. connected to the theater you choose.

3. Write at least 5 letters home to friends or loved ones telling about your experiences as an American GI from the time you enter the military to the time the war ends. Letters must cover at least a two year time period.

          A. Be sure to answer the following questions in your letters:
                      1. What branch of service are you in?
                               a. Did you volunteer or were you drafted?
                      b. What is your rank?
                      c. How do you feel about the draft?
                      d. Where were you trained? What job were you trained
                            for?
                2. In what battles did you participate? (choose at least 2
                     battles)
                      a. What was battle like?
                      b. Explain the strategy of the battles, the outcome, and
                           how the battles affected the outcome of the war.
                 3. Describe your daily military life when not in combat.

            B. All letters should:
                  1. Include date (month, day, year)
                  2. Be historically accurate
                  3. Be written in first person
                  4. Be a minimum of 250 words in length
