Process

You must complete both Part I and Part II.

  1. Before you begin researching a career, you need to understand how you learn.  Take the "How Do You Learn?" inventory from the book entitled, Self-Exploration Inventories.  This will give you an indication about how you learn best in the classroom.  You will then be divided into the group where you scored the highest.  For example, you will either be in the auditory, visual, or kinesthetic group.  All three groups will brainstorm a list of ways teachers could help students become better auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners within the classroom.  Each group will present their ideas to the class.
  2. There is one more inventory that is key to beginning your research. In your COIN books, fill out the interest inventory on pages 6-11.  Once you have completed the inventory, find your three top scores.  You may use these scores to choose a career to research.  If you do not have an interest in any of those career clusters, choose a career you are interested in researching.
  3. Go to www.echoices.com to begin searching for information.  You will need to create a new account in order to view the website.  You will be given the ACCESS ID and password in class.  Once you are in this website you will be able to find valuable information for the interview/presentation.  Be sure to print out information that will be helpful to you.  Here a few examples of other great websites:
  1. Look at the Classified Ads in the local newspaper.  Find five common attributes that employers look for when they want to hire someone and bring those to class.  Look for any examples from  Character Counts (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.  Do you need those attributes for your career?
  2. You are now ready to put your presentation together.  Use the above information to create a 2-3 minute presentation.  Be sure to know the topics listed from the TASK page.
  3. Give your presentation about your career and answer questions from other students.

As part of the assignment, you will interview a classmate about his/her choice of career.  You will be assigned a partner for this activity.  Together you will come up with at least ten interview questions.  Your job is to develop questions you think will not be addressed during the presentation.  Be creative with your questions.
