Process

As the new manager of a major league baseball all-star team, you goal is to create the best team of 25 players that you can. You can only recruit current, active major league players from your assigned division, and you want representation from every team in your division. So, each player you choose must have at least 20 at bats, and you must pick at least 3 players from each team in your division. Although you will be looking at all the statistics for each player, your goal is to create a team with a better batting average than any other all-star team in our Fantasy League. You will use the Internet and the official major league baseball website for all the information you need for this project.

Each team should have the indicated amount of players for each of the following positions:

2 Catchers (C)
2 First Basemen (1B)
2 Second Basemen (2B)
2 Third Basemen (3B)
2 Short Stops (SS)
2 Left Fielders (LF)
2 Center Fielders (CF)
2 Right Fielders (RF)
3 Starting Pitchers (SP)
3 Relief Pitchers (RP)

The other three players can play any position.

You will create a team roster using an excel spread sheet. Be sure to record the following statistics for every player on your team:

Player's Name
Player's Position
Games Played (GP)
Games Started (GS)
At Bats (AB)
Runs (R)
Hits (H)
Doubles (DO)
Triples (TR)
Home Runs (HR)
Runs Batted In (RBI)
Batting Average ( AVE)
Fielding Errors (E)

You should also include which team each of your players was acquired from. The excel program must compute team averages for each statistic category listed, and the batting average for the new team you formed. Be sure to give your fantasy team a name and team mascot.

Don't forget you are competing with other students in your class to see who has developed the team with the best batting average.
