INTRODUCTION

-High School Track and Field-

One of the most exciting things to do on a warm, spring evening is to watch a high school track and field meet.  As the sun sets, young men and women prepare to perform to their potential in an effort to gain victory on the oval.  Whether sprinting, running a long race, or participating in field events, student athletes in track and field must work diligently in order to be prepared for the races they will run.

What most people see, though, is the finished product.  Parents see their children run faster.  Interested fans see their favorite runner drop four seconds off of his best 3200 meter run time.  What these interested parties fail to witness are the hours of training that go into making these athletes better.  This webquest is designed to education others about the dedicated training necessary in order to successfully compete in track.  More importantly than winning, though, is the way that this webquest teaches the complexities of training for the track and field season.

"No negative thoughts cross my mind on race day. When I look into their eyes, I know I'm going to beat them."   - Danny Harris
