STEP 1 From the list below choose the one issue that needs most improved in Crawfordsville. *Arts in our community *More things for youth to do *Drug/Alcohol issues *Job Opportunities *Reducing poverty *Community Eyesores *School related issues *Areas of natural concern STEP 2 Research your chosen topic. You will need to acquire expert knowledge and facts about your topic, as well as using logic and personal experiences. You will find websites and a list of experts under the resources area. Keep in mind that your audience will be an adult in our community who could help you implement your ideas to improve your community. CHECKLIST ___I have expert knowledge about my topic ___I have factual information about my topic ___I have used personal experience to support my topic ___I have used logic to support my topic STEP 3 Write your speech and turn it into an outline on notecards. Use the outline worksheet to help you develop this. After completing the outline, a peer will edit your progress. The persuasive presentation should be 2-3 minutes. The speech should include an attention grabbing introduction, your logical, personal, expert, and factual supporting evidence, and a conclusion. It should be memorized and designed for an adult audience who could help you implement your plan. STEP 4 Present your speech to the class. It will be evaluated by your teacher and peers. Each evaluation will include ideas on how to improve your arguments to make them stronger and more persuasive. You will find the rubric for this speech under assessment. STEP 5 Improve your arguments using the suggestions from your peers and your teacher. This will assist you in having a super presentation for the adult you will address at our community improvement luncheon. STEP 6 Participate in a luncheon with the adult(s) who could help you implement your ideas to improve our community. During this time, you will present your speech and participate in a discussion that just might improve Crawfordsville forever! STEP 7 Reflect on what you have learned. Write a reflection entry covering the steps you went through to learn more about your topic, giving your presentation, discussing your ideas with the community leader of your choice, and how doing a project like this has changed your feelings about giving speeches. Be sure to include difficulties, surprises, and exciting ideas that you encountered along your journey through the unit.
